»There are always flowers for those who want to see them.« (Henri Matisse)
»Since antiquity, flowers, blossoms and plants have been a subject of art. As abundant embellishment, iconographic element or philosophical-artistic reflection – their epic beauty and lavishness, their at times strict geometry and fantastic shapes, but most of all their magnificent flourishing and poetic evanescence have always mesmerised and motivated artists to create extraordinary works of art.
That this holds true to this day can be seen in the forthcoming exhibition.
I have invited sixteen artists from Germany, Belgium and Spain to show you that the art of depicting flowers has by no means been exhausted but has led to surprisingly new forms of artistic interpretation. More than 40 works of art will be on display, including drawings, paintings, photographs, digital art, printed graphics and sculptures.« (Christine Knauber)
